My Solo BKK Trip Travel Diary

by - October 13, 2016

For the first time ever, I'm gonna share the entire sequel of my Bangkok trip through Instagram stories and Iphone snapshots. Those who know me, would know that I've travelled quite a fair share to the land of smiles for both business and leisure. Most of the time, it's the former but I've never gone solo. Everyone would get extremely worried when I bring the topic up and would quickly usher a representative on my travel quest.

This time, I decided I needed some time alone to figure things out and my loved ones reluctantly agreed. It was a short trip to get some stuff sorted out and we are in the midst of bringing another label in too (if you've followed through my Instagram stories!)

A day before the trip, I felt so nervous that I've actually had plans to call it off (much to KH's delight). Whether it was in the plane, on the train, having a meal or even in the hotel room - it always felt better to have company. Thank God I fought my fears, packed my luggage and whisked off to the airport. KH drove me there and gave me a really tight hug before reminding me to be safe. My nervousness wore out and I started to feel hungry, so I took a quick stop at Starbucks before rushing to the gate.

My plane ride was smooth and I reached earlier than the stipulated time! (PTL - Praise The Lord!) I quickly jumped off my seat, got out of the airport and made my way to my accommodation. I loved how convenient and well furnished it was - walking distance from Platinum Mall and from the Airport Rail. My only source of unhappiness stemmed from hauling my luggages 3 levels. This time, my mind trailed back to having companionship. Atleast I'd have some form of help!

One perk of being alone is that I don't have to account to anyone, which also meant that no one would care where my things are placed (especially when I'm a creature who thrives in mess).

After dropping my bags, I proceeded to my usual hideouts - Platinum Mall for Crepe and shopping, followed by a short walk around Pratunam Market before heading to Central World. I would send snaps of apparel for the sister and we decided on buying this top with an oversized cami in blush.
Most of my time was spent in Sephora, swatching for a new tinted moisturizer and thinking of what to get for the kiddos back at home.

After having dinner at my usual Thailand restaurant, I returned for an early night cuz I knew it was gonna be a long day 2!

I'm very predictable. A typical morning in BKK would mean me scouting for new finds at the heart of Pratunam Market. I woke up at 6.30am, got dressed and started shopping. I love stocking my white basic v neck tees and jeans here.

Got back to my room at about 830am and proceeded to take some photos of my buys before changing out to my new jeans. Stopped by Platinum Mall for another thorough round of shopping where I got more clothes for the sis (She's really blessed - she needs to know!) before grabbing my favourite lunch - Tom Yam Shrimp Noodles from the 7th Floor. They serve a whole lot of variety up there which to succinctly describe in 3 words: Thai Food Heaven. I could live there.

I had to cut through Central World before heading to Siam - where my meeting was at. The marble coated designs in Zen had me walking around Zen to snap my full outfit! I slowly waded through the human traffic before arriving at Siam Square - a relatively new mall where our new brand, Shuberry has a store at. We're in plans of launching a new collection that will be hitting Singapore sometime in November, so keep a lookout!

Of course I couldn't help but indulge in the cutest macaroon icecream treat before my next scheduled meeting. Took a shortcut back to the hotel by foot, checked on the progress of our recent preorders before preparing for dinner.

Paula and her husband, owners of SHUBERRY very kindly extended a dinner invitation to me! It was so sweet of them because they just touched down in Bangkok on that particular morning. I'm sure they had an absolutely tiring day but were still so warm and welcoming. We dined at The Commons @Thong Lor - where I dug in to a fresh lobster roll and got to slurp on Milo Bingsu too!

Maygori is an expansion of the dessert empire - After You, but this standalone store only specialises in Bingsu.

Bitter sweet feelings started seeping in as I thought about how today would unfold. I would pack my luggage, head out for a super breakfast, check out of my room and do some last minute shopping before I made my way to the airport.

In a bid to maximise my day, I'd make it a point to wake up early whenever I'm abroad. I started my morning routine before booking an Uber to Brekkie. The moment I stepped into the cab, it started pouring really heavily. Thank God for perfect timing. I'll share more about my dining experience in another post!

After a sumptuous breakfast, I took a cab back to check out..swiftly placing Dumbo - my soft toy companion KH bought me into my luggage. Day 3 was a day I've dedicated to dine at places I've always wanted to visit, but never had the time to. No doubt, Greyhound Cafe was on the list! Having read tons of reviews about it, I harboured high expectations of my main course. The food was average but I would give thumbs up for their service!

I took a shortcut back to Platinum Mall for some last minute shopping; where I discovered a hotel which had such charming architecture. To top it off, they had on display an array of purple blooms. Those hydrangeas got me sneakily snapping photos in the hotel compound before I went on. At Platinum Mall, I would make a quick pitstop at Basement 1 - where the Crepe and Mango Sticky Rice stall is stationed. With time to spare, I made one more round around Level 2 and scored a few more pieces before hurrying back to take a shower.

I then repacked my luggage to fit my new hauls into them. I've also made use of Uber's new function - allowing me to prebook my trip to the airport! The driver was punctual and I fell asleep in the cab during my one hour journey. I was praying fervently that my baggage would not exceed and thank God, the airport counter staff closed an eye as she saw the machine revealed a 1kg excess. PTL. Crossed the immigration, got myself dinner and dropped by DFS to get some cosmetics before jetting back to Singapore.

That marks the end of my solo trip to Bangkok! In my upcoming posts, I'll be sharing about my accommodation, dining places and outfits in detail. More Bangkok travel posts can be found through this travel tab.
